ABOUT MYDIGITALIMAGES

Halina Paulette Electric
I became interested in photography over 40 years ago and my first camera was a Halina Paulette Electric which my father paid the princely sum of £11.19.6d.   Shortly afterwards I changed jobs, taking up a position as a trainee salesman with the U.K's largest photographic retailer.  This brought me not only hands on experience with camera brands such as Canon, Nikon, Leica, Alpa, Voigtlander, Praktica, and many, many more, but also a connection with colleagues and customers who all had a deep passion and knowledge of photography - the bug had certainly bitten!

Kodachrome
It wasn't long before I was learning how to develop and print my own black and white pictures before moving on to using what probably was my favourite film type, transparency or slides.   I still have thousands of Kodachrome slides and a working projector, which I keep promising to dust off so that my wife and I can reminisce.

Kodak DC210
My career generated an interest in both photographic and tech' products, something which has continued to this day, so it was inevitable that I would eventually move to digital; this I did in the late 90's with the purchase of Kodak's first 1MP digital camera, the DC210. I am now onto my seventh, eighth and ninth digital cameras, owning a Nikon D7100 DSLR, a Leica M9 Rangefinder and a Leica D-Lux 6 compact.

Cameras of course are only the 'means to the end', the instruments required to capture images.  The skill is still and always will be in the ability to identify, create and produce images that are either story tellers, visually intriguing, technically excellent, magical memories, or just beautiful to look at.

I am not a professional, but as a keen amateur I am always striving to capture that 'really great shot', as I am sure you do too.   My website is predominately here for me to share my favourite images with fellow photographers, and to showcase theirs too.

UPDATED MARCH 2013
Adventure into film!   I decided to expand my photographic challenges by investing in a 'classic' film camera, a Leica M4-P.  This certainly takes me back to my first encounter with photography, the exciting anticipation of waiting to see the results of the developed film, and the realisation that a lot more care and consideration is required with this medium.  The films will be developed then professionally scanned and I will post results periodically on my 'Film to Digital' page.
UPDATED APRIL 2015
The end of an era.  My Nikon equipment has gone, my D7100 and lenses being replaced with a more transportable Leica X-Vario.

UPDATED MAY 2016

For several months now I've been finding that for most of my work I have been using the 28mm wide angle lens. Also, due to my ageing eyes, using the rangefinder on the M9 has been tricky on occasions.  However, the image quality from shooting Full Frame and with the Leica lenses has been really impressive.  Earlier this year Leica launched a new model - The 'Q'.  This camera combines modern technology with traditional Leica aesthetics and build quality, and is a full frame camera with a fixed very fast f1.7 28mm lens.  So, taking very deep breaths, I decided to swap the M9 and two of my lenses for a new 'Q'.  There are may reviews online, and if you click the 'Q' image there is a link to one thats worth a read. ,  Whilst it's still early days and I'm getting used to the different handling, so far I'm loving it.    Future images will be available on my other website.

UPDATED JUNE 2018
Whilst I loved the 'Q' and though the 28mm lens was great for many situations, I was missing the flexibility of other focal lengths. Therefore in May 2018, following the launch of the new LEICA CL, I decided to trade in the 'Q'.  The CL although not full-frame has fantastic image quality, is more compact which suits my needs, and has the benefit of interchangeable lenses.  I now have a 'full set' of lenses including an 11mm - 23mm (18mm - 35mm equivalent), 18mm -56mm (28mm - 85mm equivalent) , a 23mmPrime (35mm equivalent) and my latest and final addition, a 55-135mm (80-200mm equivalent).
